Many people mourned his loss, but he remains very present for his mother, Mary Leopold. In processing her own grief, she reached out to listen to other grievers’ stories. She learned about a garden designer in Japan, Itaru Sasaki, who had set up a vintage phone booth in his own garden in 2010.

She has also presented and published literature on the different types of supportive services, including palliative, hospice, acute and post-acute care. He served in the same role prior to that at Optum Hospice since 2010. Howe has more than 14 years of experience in hospice. He was previously medical director at Compassus since 2017.
