Some hospices have increasingly recognized the value of collaborating with local educators when it comes to improving community grief support for bereaved children and their families. The nonprofit provides hospice services across 10 counties in its service area and also offers bereavement and veteran programs.

Last year, Helios Care served more than 580 hospice patients across four New York counties in addition to 90 palliative care patients and more than 550 bereavement care clients. Formerly known as Catskills Area Hospice and Palliative Care, the organization rebranded as Helios in 2019.

Muir joined the organization in 2019 as its chief of clinical innovations. He first joined that company as its executive vice president of clinical services and CMO in 2002 while holding a similar role at Hospice of the Piedmont from 2019 to 2020. Muir was previously chief innovation officer at Capital Caring Health.

In addition to palliative, Homeland at Home provides facility- and home-based hospice, home health, personal and skilled nursing care, along with bereavement support. At least 49 programs statewide provided community-based palliative care during 2019, reported the Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC).
