Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is extending the value-based insurance design demonstration for calendar years 2025 to 2030, including the hospice component. The hospice component of VBID, also called the MA carve-in, launched in 2021 and was originally slated to complete after four years.

Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has proposed a new avenue of funding for Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) with implications for palliative care providers. CMS has announced plans to ensure that 100% of Medicare beneficiaries become aligned with an accountable care entity by 2030.

The 20-patient bed center was the only inpatient hospice facility located in Yakima County, Washington. The health system anticipates the location to remain closed until the end of 2025. The nonprofit has provided hospice care to nearly 3,000 patients at the four-room center since its opening in 2002.
