Providers have reported shortages among social workers and nonclinical staff as well. The close of the years also saw some earnings stabilization among publicly traded companies.

Hospices simply did not have enough staff to meet demand, which drove some of them out of business. Executives from almost every publicly traded hospice company raised this issue in earnings calls and presentations throughout the year. Nurses saw average national salary increases of 5.95% in 2022.
