AAHPM (American Academy of Hospice and Palliative)
JUNE 6, 2024
Elizabeth Hart, MD has been recognized as one of the exceptional individuals chosen as a 2024 AAHPM Visionaries in Hospice and Palliative Care. Being present for the deaths of my father and a dear friend early in my residency deeply impacted who I became as a doctor and as a person. Patients are often my most treasured teachers.
I like to ask the patient and family if it’s ok to speak openly with everyone present. For instance, your chaplains and socialworkers can be extremely helpful in navigating the type of conversations. You should also utilize your hospicevolunteers when you can.
In addition to being a palliative and hospice RN, she is the Executive Director for Goodwin Hospice , a large non-profit hospice that added end-of-life doula care to their services in collaboration with Jane and John’s doula organization, Present for You. Beth: It depends on the volunteer. John: Yeah.
I'm not a socialworker. I am a very experienced person who's been a caregiver and a longtime hospicevolunteer. I've been on the inside and on the outside of hospice. You know, we're just present. Something else before we start, just to be clear, I am not offering medical advice. I'm not a doctor.
